The Importance of Website Content

Firstly, I’ll start by wishing everybody a happy new year and a prosperous 2013! It’s normally a common question a range of businesses ask, no matter if you’re a small, local business or simply a business that survives purely by a web presence. What is the best way to get your website noticed? Or more commonly, how to improve search engine ranking? I’m not claiming to preach all the right answers here, but I can recommend some easy content strategies you hopefully will find helpful and could potentially improve your website performance results.

The importance of regular content

Regular, relevant content is vital to any website. It’s incredibly important before hand to know who is responsible for website content changes. Here at untitled™ we have made website content creation an integral part of our packages. Now, know your target audience? Before diving into writing your content, it’s essential you strategise your content and know who your target audience is and what sort of presence your business has both in the community and the online market.

Once you have considered your target audience, the location and size of your business is also an important factor, if you are a small to medium range business, look to include your local towns & county location within the content and keywords. If you are a medium to large business, look to focus on a wider range such as your region e.g. northwest.

We have a great article explaining and highlighting the importance of search engines in depth covering topics such as what search engines look for and how search engines work. You can view the article by clicking here.

Remember, write quality not quantity! Creating rich, good quality content is vital and it’s important to tailor your words using engaging, attractive and interesting language your target audience can understand. Get into the state of mind of potential customers & users and provide solutions and scenarios to potential questions you might have about the services or products your business has to offer. Remember content which answer questions is both helpful from a customer service and search engine perspective.

Lastly it’s significant to consider the description and keywords for your website. Again adding rich, relevant descriptions keywords is your chance to showcase what your website is about within the description and keyword tags. Again tailor your words carefully and pacifically as to what you would search for in a search engine in order to find your website. Finally be specific as to what services and products your website provides. I have found a great blog explaining how Google responds to keywords and description tags.

Keep on top of your content

Having discussed the importance of content, it’s exceptionally important to keep on top of maintaining and adding fresh content to your website. The benefits of adding fresh new content not only greatly improves search engine rankings but also keeps visitors engaged and interested in your services and products and keeps visitors coming back to see what’s new. Visitors can take great comfort and security in your services and products if you have regular reviews and news as it showcases that customers really do use your website on a regular basis.

Regular Content Checklist

Blogs

Having a regular blog is a great way to build credibility and a good reputation online. The importance of a blog allows you to provide information to both existing and potential new customers whether that’s informing visitors about a new project or simply your thoughts on a service/product.

Case Studies

Case studies are a great way of showing off what you do well and getting your business noticed, returning customers and new visitors can take reassurance knowing that existing customers are not only a satisfied with your service, but also provide how they benefitted from your service.

News

Providing regular news is a great way to provide any type of news ranging from a new client project to showcasing new products or the very latest offer you’re advertising.

Social Media

More and more businesses are starting to interact with the world of social media. I personally think this is a great way to build on market expansion as not only does it maintain current existing relationships but also offers to build new ones. There’s no better feeling for customers if they feel you offer convenience to them on a 24/7 basis.

Testimonials

Again having frequent testimonials embedded onto your website adds value to your website. Visitors viewing your website for the first time will take reassurance reading how your services/products have benefitted previous customers, don’t forget by having a testimonial showcases the customers views on your service.
